Grow From Seeds

Growing swede and turnip from seed

Roots for the end of the year. Hardy and quick to germinate.

Sowing

Sow in summer for autumn and winter harvest. Seed germinates quickly, in a few days in warmth, and can be started indoors and planted out into a raised bed or sown direct.

Tips

  • Keep evenly watered; irregular watering splits roots.
  • Thin to give each root room.
  • Brassicas like firm soil and are targets for pigeons: net them.
