Grow From Seeds

Growing sago palm from seed

An ancient cycad with hard seeds that are very slow to grow.

Sowing

Seeds have a fleshy outer layer around a hard shell. Remove the outer coat, soak the seed in water overnight, then sow in a warm place in free-draining mix. Germination can take a long time.

Safety: Sago palm seeds and plants are toxic if eaten, including to pets. Wear gloves when handling and keep them out of reach.

Tips

  • Patience: cycads grow very slowly.
