Sowing
Sow where it will grow: coriander does not like being transplanted. Spring to early summer is the usual window, as one grower advises April to May.
Use seed sold for sowing, not roasted spice. Sow a few more seeds than you need: some will not come up.
Cover lightly and keep damp.
Tips
- Sow in small batches every few weeks; hot weather makes plants bolt.
- Grows well in a pot on a windowsill for leaves.
Saving the seed
Coriander seed goes from green balls to cream or tan and then brown. When brown with small indentations, snip the seed heads off on a dry day and store in a bag, then dry and remove the chaff.
Always check the packet for your variety, and see the step-by-step guide for the basics.
