Grow From Seeds

Growing celery from seed

Slow to germinate and fussy about moisture, but possible from seed with patience.

Sowing

Sow indoors in early spring. The seed is tiny and is usually sown on the surface or barely covered; keep it warm and evenly damp, as it can be slow.

Tips

  • Never let the mix dry out.
  • Harden off carefully; young celery is sensitive to cold. One gardener protected seedlings outdoors with milk-carton cloches.
  • Sow in batches for a longer harvest.
